How difficult is it to get into Georgetown University?
For the Class of 2028, 3,226 of 26,170 applicants were admitted, yielding a 12% acceptance rate. The mid-50% of SAT math scores ranged from 730-790, with mid-50% of verbal scores ranging from 730-770 and mid-50% of ACT scores between 32 and 35. The University is considered a reach school for nearly every applicant.
What is the campus like at Georgetown University?
Georgetown offers a beautiful, sprawling campus with access to a world-class city. Home to over 170 embassies and a plethora of nonprofits, NGOs, federal agencies, institutes, tech and media startups, and museums, Washington D.C. gives students unparalleled access to real-world career opportunities for both professional development and fun.
First-year students are placed into all-freshman on-campus residence halls and required to live on campus through their junior year. Many continue to do so for all 4 years. Students can apply to live as a member of a Living Learning Community and complete social, educational, and reflective activities to further their learning about topics they are passionate about.
Georgetown has a great student to faculty ratio, at just 11:1, allowing easy access to mentorship and extra academic support from their professors. Outside of the classroom, Georgetown has over 350 clubs and organizations. Being in D.C., the student body is actively involved in politics, and no matter what side of the aisle you’re on, you’ll find a community who shares similar viewpoints. Being a Jesuit university, the school places a significant emphasis on serving others, so students have plenty of opportunities to become involved in service, volunteering and advocacy.
How do I apply to Georgetown University?
Students can either apply Early Action (Nov. 1) or Regular Decision (Jan. 10).
- Students who apply to Georgetown through the Early Action program may not apply to an Early Decision program that offers binding admission, but may apply to other schools Early Action. Students who apply to Georgetown Early Action will either be admitted or deferred to the Regular Decision round. Students will not be denied admission through the Early Action program.
- The applicant is asked to apply to one of the following undergraduate schools: Georgetown College, the McDonough School of Business, the School of Nursing & Health Studies, School of Health, or the Walsh School of Foreign Service.
Note that Georgetown uses its own proprietary application, rather than the Common Application or the Coalition applications.
Applicants are asked to write and submit:
- a short essay about special talents or skills they may have,
- a short essay about the activity in which they have been the most involved,
- a personal essay (very similar to the Common App Personal Essay),
- and an essay explaining their desire to apply to their chosen course of study (the prompt for this essay varies by school).
In addition to the application and application essays, students are asked to submit:
- a Secondary School Report,
- a Teacher’s Report,
- a Midyear School Report
- and standardized test scores.
- All applicants are required to have an alumni interview unless it is not geographically possible.
- Students also have the option to submit supplementary materials in art, music, theater, or dance.

What is Georgetown University’s core curriculum and what unique programs does the school offer?
Georgetown’s Walsh School of Foreign Service uniquely offers 8 different programs in international affairs, including the Culture and Politics, Global Business, International Economics, International Political Economy, and Science, Technology and International Affairs, as well as a joint degree program in Business and Global Affairs in conjunction with the McDonough School of Business.
Other unique programs include the School of Health’s BS in Health Care Management and Policy and the McDonough School of Business’ Bachelor of Science in International Business, Language, and Culture, offered in conjunction with Georgetown College.
As a Jesuit institution, Georgetown requires that all students complete two tiers of a core curriculum. The first tier, required for all students completing an undergraduate degree, includes standard Writing, Humanities, and Science requirements, as well as two courses in “Engaging Diversity” to “ensure the opportunity to engage with diversity in the domestic and global contexts” and two courses in Theology and Religious studies, aimed to “foster appreciative awareness of the religious dimension of human existence.” The second tier of the core curriculum varies by school, so be sure to check out the specific requirements put forth by the school you plan to apply to!
