WEEHAWKEN  X  COMMAND EDUCATION

Monday, August 12 – Friday, August 16, 2024

The Weehawken High School Counseling Department and the expert college consulting team Command Education will be hosting a custom virtual Application Booster® Camp to help rising seniors jumpstart their college applications. During this camp, mentors and students will review their progress, work on brainstorming and essay drafting, and discuss each component of the Common Application. Together, they will work towards the camp’s goal of completing the first draft of the personal statement and Common App activities list by the end of the week.

Before the Camp:

To make the most of their time at the camp, students should come prepared with ideas for potential personal statement essay topics. We also highly recommend that students read “On Writing the College Application Essay” by Harry Bauld, a concise and helpful guide to approaching the personal statement.

Daily Routine:

Each day, students will meet 1:1 with their mentor several times a day. During these sessions, mentors and students will review their progress, work on brainstorming and essay drafting, and discuss each component of the Common Application. Together, they will work towards the camp’s goal of completing the first draft of the personal statement and Common App activities list by the end of the week.

F.A.Q’S

Who am I going to be working with during the Digital Application Booster Camp?
Students at the camp will be meeting one-on-one with mentors on the Command Education team, all of whom are graduates from Ivy League schools and top universities.
When are the specific times that I will be meeting with my counselor?
We will providing specific meeting times to all participants, but students should expect to block off their mornings and afternoons for the Camp.
Can I request a specific mentor on the Command Education team?

Due to scheduling, you will not be able to request a specific mentor, however, rest assured that all mentors on the team are trained experts at guiding students through the essay-writing process.

Can I choose specific days and times to meet with my mentor?

No. All student and mentor 1:1 meetings will be preset before the camp, and we will be providing participants with specifics on these meeting times.

What happens if I miss a session?

Missed sessions cannot be re-booked due to possible scheduling conflicts. Additionally, if a student misses two camp days, their schedule will be released to accommodate another student.

I’m really struggling to come up with good essay ideas. What if I can’t think of any good ideas before the camp?

Don’t worry — our mentors are experts in helping students brainstorm and develop strong essay ideas. We encourage you to come to the Camp with any ideas you may have, even if you feel that they are not the strongest.

What happens if I finish my Common Application personal statement and activities list before the end of the Camp?
We don’t expect students to complete the personal statement and activities list early, and encourage you to take time to brainstorm, draft, and redraft your essay until it’s as strong as possible! However, if you do finish the Common Application components early,  we can begin brainstorming for supplemental essay questions.
How will I be meeting with my mentor?

All sessions will be conducted via Zoom. We will send the specific details of the camp to each participant.
